Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

Until yesterday I hadn’t been inside the zoo in a long time so when @dkmashino was doing some volunteer work there I met him and we walked around to see all the animals.  Yes, it was a bit stinky but was fun to see animals not usually seen on the islands. It was pretty hot in the sun so the animals weren’t very active but we did manage to see quite a few animals.

I live in Waikiki on the zoo end by Kapiolani Park so it’s common to hear the calls of the monkeys and peacocks. The monkeys are the loudest residents at the zoo being so loud sometimes you can hear them down by the beach.

“If I stand really still can you still see me or do I become invisible?”

Contrary to what you may be thinking this tiger is not licking his chops thinking about having us for lunch. He’s really just panting because it was really hot during mid day. The animal keepers play with the tigers with water from garden hoses that the tigers run through. It’s like watching children playing in the yard with a hose.

These are the FIRST flamingos I have seen in Hawaii.  I wonder if they get the shrimp to feed them from the shrimp farms on the north shore. It’s the iodine in the shrimp that keep the flamingo feathers pink.
