Iolani Palace is the only palace in the United States. Hawaii wasn’t a state until 1959 which really isn’t that long ago in comparison to how old most countries are (only 53 years as a state). I wish you could take photos inside the palace but it’s prohibited. I’d love to post them on this [...]
Photo postcard by Ray Ray Jerome Baker (1880-1972).
It’s true. You never know what you’ll find people doing in Waikiki. Tonight while walking the dogs some neighbors and I spotted this dude juggling with fire on the beach. His name is Edwin Bond, is an adventurer, Producer, and he’s walking across America. Here’s a link to the website about the adventure: The Great [...]
Boats at dock near La Mariana on Sand Island, Honolulu, Hawaii
Not the brightest sunset but still a beautiful sky.
Along Kalakaua avenue in Waikiki many businesses have torches they fire up at night like used to be used in old times Hawaii. These particular torches caught my eye because of their flower cutouts. If I remember right these torches are in front of Chesecake Factory.
A bust of Jack Lord, a star from the Hawaii 5-0 TV series from the 1970s. It seems like its in a weird place (behind Macy’s at Kahala Mall) but its nice he’s remembered for a show that helped put Hawaii on the map for millions of baby boomers.
It’s Christmas day so that means it’s time for the 3rd Annual Kalakaua Christmas Walk. It’s a tradition I started in 2008. That year I took one of my favorite photos of Diamond Head crater.
One of my favorite statues in Waikiki. “Makua and Kila” is a children’s story by Fred Van Dyke. You can read more about the story & buy the book on the author’s website. Sometimes I think people miss the beauty of the backside of a sculpture. I love the people in the background of this [...]
Got back into Waikiki just in time to rush over to take a snapshot of tonight’s gorgeous glowing orange sunset. The sky had an almost spooky glow. I’m happy I saw even a few minutes of it.
Keaomelemele Hula Performance by Na Pualei O Likolehua Halau at the Bishop Dinner during the 10th Annual Native Hawaiian Convention
